A beautiful hidden place at the end of the line and it's a delightful surprise. The atmosphere is charming, the coffee is top-notch, and the meals are simply great. It's the perfect spot for a leisurely brunch.
If you are a tourist, like me, and found this place on a list of recommended cafe, I'd encourage you to find another place. This cafe is located inside a condominium area. So while the food and the atmosphere is good, and that it is near the Yarra river, it felt a little awkward going into a residential area.
Tucked away in a leafy corner overlooking the Yarra river is a hidden cafe serving up a delicious brunch menu in a peaceful setting surrounded by nature 🌱
We tried:
🦀 Chilli Crab Benny
🐟 Fish & Chips
🥠 Potato Cones (Samosas)
🧃 Tropical Cold Pressed Juice
🥤 Bahama Smoothie
One of my fave eggs benny’s I’ve had in a while! Two crispy toasted english muffins topped with a generous serve of crab and perfectly poached eggs. The chilli lime hollandaise was creamy and flavourful and I loved the addition of crispy wontons for that extra crunch factor. The fish and chips were bomb - so crunchy, well-salted, a classic done right! The potato cones turned out to be samosas, which had a crunchy exterior and a tasty spiced filling. Loved the tropical juice, which had super fragrant fruity flavours and a nice burst of passionfruit. The smoothie was a little on the bland side, but still enjoyable.
It was a sunny day on 8th October when we visited Frankie Says, perfectly located near the Yarra River, we got:
☕️ Iced Coffee & Tropical Juice
Delicious coffee & fresh blend of juice (thicc)
🥔 Hash Browns
Served in 3, a nice side item / snack.
🍗 Special - Chicken on a Spit
This was their Sunday special. The chicken was cooked & seasoned nicely! The meat was juicy, served with crispy chips, toasted bread, and the capsicum dip. However, a fresh salad as a side would make this perfect.
🍳 Chili Crab Benny
This was tasty, the eggs were poached well, creamy hollandaise and coleslaw was fresh & nicely coated with the sauce. The texture contrast from the wonton crisps were nice too. However, the crab flavor was really lacking especially with all elements eaten together in one bite. If they could provide more ‘seafood’ taste, this would be a hit.
Overall, the location is incredible as we got to enjoy our brunch with a view (and some sun!). The staff was friendly, there are indoor/outdoor seating options but it could get quite hot outside when the sun’s on your head. The food was tasty, straight-forward but could do with some improvements. We’d recommend a visit on a sunny day! ✨
Great spot to grab food or coffee when walking along the river. Perfect grab a sandwich-type, on-the-go meals. Nice, quick easy and super sunny 🌞 won't be disappointed.
This has become on of our favourite brunch stops. Very popular cafe located on the ground floor of Acacia Place. Indoor and upstaris mezzanine seating or outside under pergola/ umbrellas overlooking the Yarra River banks. Fast and efficient serivce, good breakfast menu and coffee. Probably best to walk to this cafe as carparking could be difficult.
Came here on a Saturday morning with a friend, it wasn't busy, yet nobody came to our table to take our order, for at least 20-30 mins. Saw 3 staff standing around chatting, and couldn't grab their attention, so we had to get up and ask one of them to take our order.
Should have taken the poor customer service as an indication of what was to come. I (regrettably) ordered the most expensive dish on the menu, the Chilli Crab Benny. My friend took poached eggs on toast with additional avo. I tried to eat my dish simply because I was hungry - but I couldn't torture myself enough to finish the cold mess of canned crab pieces, soggy vegetables and stale crumpets. I noticed my friend was struggling as well, and we also realised both our dishes had poached eggs with water spurting out of them. We gave up eating, and continued our catch up. At least my coffee was drinkable.
In the end, she complained to the waiter on our behalf, who tried to argue with her that their eggs were poached just fine. No apology or compensation offered. Disappointing experience, to say the least.
Popped in for a quick coffee and we were happily greeted by some very happy staff. They were polite and quick. The ice lattes were perfect as was the baby chino. Will be back for breakfast next.
